Charleston, SC – Out of a need to promote and represent the collective giving power of Black and minority professionals, Trident United Way will launch the African American Leadership Council (AALC) on Wednesday, April 22nd. The AALC is being formed to improve the education and financial lives of families and children in the Tri-County area.
Key leaders of the African American professional commu-nity will announce the AALC’s goal to raise $2 million for measurable impact in education and financial stability throughout the Lowcountry.
Dr. Thaddeus J. Bell, respected family physician and founder and CEO of Closing the Gap in Health Care Inc.; and Jermaine Husser, executive director of the Palmetto Warrior Connection, will spearhead this initiative as co-chairs of the AALC.
Leading local African-Americans will discuss the future of the AALC, its purpose and mission. Prominent members of the council, including Wilbur Johnson (YCR Law Firm), Michelle Mapp (SC Community Loan Fund), Carolyn Hunter (C&A Unlimited, Inc.), Dan Martin (Allstate), Dr. Paula Orr (Charleston Women’s Wellness Center) and Dr. Sabra Slaughter (MUSC) will lead the launch hosted by Trident United Way on Wednesday, April 22nd from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at The Avery Research Center located at 125 Bull Street, Charleston, SC.
