2023-2024 Changemaker Grants
Q3: ALICE - Persons of Color Led or Serving
ALICE, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, represents the growing number of families who are unable to afford the basics of housing, child care, food, transportation, health care and technology. This grant pool of funding will focus on making a positive impact in the Tri-County community by supporting up to 4 local nonprofits either led by a person(s) of color or serving a population of 60% or more persons of color with a minimum of $25,000 each, to expand services beyond current eligibility requirements and provide much needed services for those falling below the ALICE Threshold. These workers often struggle to keep their own households from financial ruin, while keeping our local communities running.
Grants will allow organizations either led by a person(s) of color or serving a population of 60% or more persons of color to expand beyond current eligibility requirements to provide much needed services for those falling below the ALICE Threshold, and in categories where funding is often not available, particularly:
- Transportation
- Childcare
- Technology
- Other costs of household basics based on the ALICE Household Survivial Budget
Examples of services include providing monthly bus passes, assisting with childcare application fees, childcare downpayments or payments, smart phone plans, housing, food and healthcare.
