18 Local Nonprofits Receive up to $3,500 for Community Outreach Events
North Charleston, SC - Trident United Way is pleased to announce the 2023 Community Engagement Grant awards totaling over $50,000 to Tri-County nonprofits with up to $3,500 for community engagement activities.
These grants are intended to supplement one-time or episodic community engagement efforts in the Tri-County area, helping organizations to build capacity, strengthen partnerships and improve systems with outreach events, volunteer engagement and trainings aligned with Trident United Way’s areas of focus in Education, Financial Stability and Health.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity for Tri-County nonprofits,” said Trident United Way Associate Vice President of Community Impact Cathy Easley. “We had so many wonderful applicants, many of whom were new to this grant process. We look forward to watching our grantees strengthen our community with continued outreach, education and training.”
This year Trident United Way received 53 applications that were reviewed by a committee of 17 trained community volunteers. Of those 53, the following 18 organizations were recommended to receive a grant from the available $50,000 pool of funds.

• Charleston Legal Access (Housing Court Volunteer Recruitment and Trainings)
• Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center (Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month Community Awareness Events and Pinwheel Gardens)
• Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina (Community Baby Showers)
• HELP of Summerville (Luncheon and Informational Meeting for Community Nonprofit Partners and Potential Partners)
• Katie’s Krops (Katie’s Krops Springfest)
• Lincolnville Preservation and Historical Society, Inc. (Our Health! Our History! Our Faith! Lincolnville Health Fair!)
• Lowcountry Food Bank (Celebrating 40 Years Serving our Community While Working Towards the Future of Food Secure Tri-County)
• North Charleston Dental Outreach (VIPSS-Volunteers, Investors, Patients, Students Shine)
• Palmetto Community Care (Palmetto Community Care Open House: Come see our new location and learn about our services)
• Shifa Free Clinic SC (ICNA Relief USA) (Community Health Fairs)
• St. James Health and Wellness, Inc. (“Fall into Health” Health Fair)
• The Partners for a Better Community (The PBC) (FREE Health Screenings Day)
• Vision to Learn (A celebration for the arrival of a second mobile vision clinic to serve the Dorchester and Berkeley County areas)
• Wings for Kids (“Tools, Tip and Tricks to Empower and Teach” – A Social Emotional Learning Workshop)
• Youth Empowerment Services, Inc. (Y.E.S.) (10th Annual Dream Girls Conference)
“The Partners for a Better Community is hosting our 18th annual FREE Health Screenings Day on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10am-2pm at The Revelation Of Christ Church,” said Executive Director of Partners for a Better Community Andrea Johnson. “The purpose of this event is to bring health awareness, provide free health screenings, offer mental health services, as well as financial education, that will promote a healthier lifestyle for families that are uninsured in our surrounding communities and the general public at large. We are thankful for the funding we received from Trident United Way which will help provide food, water, materials & supplies used for intake as well as marketing and publicity for our event.”
