North Charleston, SC - Trident United Way (TUW) announces the reopening of our Community Engagement Grant opportunities, with funding up to $3,500 for one-time, episodic and/or short-term activities conducted by local 501c3 nonprofit organizations. These activities can include episodic events (health fairs, financial education workshops, etc.), outreach events, volunteer engagement or trainings aligned with TUW’s areas of focus in Education, Financial Stability and Health. The focus should be on an activity that engages and unites the community while advancing the organization’s work to build toward a common goal.

This funding pool of $50,000 will promote community engagement best practices for nonprofits in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties, and is intended to supplement community engagement efforts in the Tri-County area, helping organizations to build capacity, strengthen partnerships, and improve systems.

Information about the Community Engagement funding opportunity will be available online and can be found here: tuw.org/funding-opportunities.

Nonprofits organizations interested in applying for a Community Engagement Opportunity must attend one of the Information Sessions in January.  The purpose of the information session is:

  1. To provide an overview of the application, reporting guidelines and the review process
  2. To provide toolkits and templates based on best practices in community engagement, that will help organizations plan and implement their activities efficiently and effectively. Topics include: Tracking and Evaluation; Volunteer Engagement; Marketing and Public Relations; and Creating a Budget

All attendees will receive a toolkit to assist them in implementing successful community engagement activities regardless of whether they apply for or receive funding.
The application will open on Thursday, January 19th and close at 5pm on January 30th.
Volunteers are currently being recruited to join the Community Engagement Review Council (CERC) to evaluate the applications submitted and select those that will be recommended to the CIC for funding.

We are looking forward to the enthusiasm and impact that re-starting this opportunity will create.
